The weeks-long hunger strike of 74-year-old Indian activist Anna Hazare drew tens of thousands of supporters to join protests in Ramlila Ground, New Delhi in 2011. Hazare’s non-violent stand focused attention on India’s endemic political corruption, and forced the government to introduce a bill for an independent investigation body.
